Stay at Home Street Party

Press Release:

A local Parish Council which was planning to hold a VE Day Party, is now asking
people to join in a VE Day celebration from home.

Framwellgate Moor Parish Council Chair Karon Willis says, “We have had to cancel
the 75th Anniversary party for the Victory in Europe day on May 8th, the celebrations
were due to take place at 3pm to coincide with the time Churchill made his broadcast
to the nation”.

“Instead we are asking that residents have their own Stay at Home party in their
garden or back yard. Whilst observing the current social distancing measures this will
give everyone the chance to say hello to neighbours and cheer people up in these
difficult times.”

County Councillor Amanda Hopgood, also a Parish Councillor adds, “It is humbling to
think that so many people had to endure years of hardship fighting to save our
country.”

“Right now it may seem difficult after a few short weeks of lockdown. By remembering
the sacrifices of our grandparent’s generation sends the message that we will
come through this.”

“The VE Day Stay at Home party can be our way of showing our respect for past generations and our commitment to get through the Coronavirus lockdown.”

VE Day Event (Cancelled)

You are all invited to celebrate the 75th VE day anniversary at the King
George V Pavilion on Friday 8th May at 3:00pm. Where we will be joining
the nation to remember the impact on our servicemen and their loved ones
from the Second World War.
There will be refreshments available, all provided and served by the ladies
of the W.I, who were an indictment strong movement during these times
and provided endless support to their local communities. All businesses
have been asked to participate in doing a window display with a prize for
the best dressed window. Let’s all pull together and strengthen our
community.
