Rediscovering and Sharing our Local History
A wish to start a Local History Group for Pity Me, Framwellgate Brasside and Newton Hall among some residents of the area has led to a meeting being called for Thursday 20 October. Do come along.
To anyone with an interest in the past of Framwellgate Moor, Pity Me, Brasside and Newton Hall. Did you live or work in the area of Durham? Have you wondered how the area came about? Did you know that the old. A1 trunk road originally went down to Durham from Chester le Street along Pity Me and Framwellgate Moor’s Front Street?
No memory is too small. It may be schooldays, events, going to work, and what shops were in the area? Share your memories about Bygone Days and research the history of this area.
Framwellgate Moor Coal and Coke Company in the Mid 1800s and other similar private companies brought many to the area to work at the local pits.
What do you remember about the local schools, the Shops and local businesses? Sports, Recreation, Sundays – how were they spent?
